We should review and add properly sized instance icon
Here is what https://github.com/BDX-town/Mangane/blob/master/docs/customization.md says:
I meant whether we want to create new logo. Current one has a lot of details which you cant even see since the logos are small. I like the reference to fe (metal) but perhpas making it a bit less detailed so it looks good when small would be a good idea. I asked @antilopa about it and she said that she will look into it.
Same impressions as @muppeth. I really like the current logo.
@antilopa what's up with that? I think you said it was not really possible to change the current idea to make it work when smaller.
I didn't find a satisfying solution. I like the current logo more than anything else I tried..
Please don't mind my butting in, but I had some inspiration and would like to share. Maybe something along these lines, perhaps?
@Shadowstreik it is an interesting idea but I don't think it solves the issue that was raised with the current icon - the fact that the details get lost when the icon is displayed in small scale on the webpage:
I'll be honest here - I do like like the current instance icon. Apart from the iron connection - which is abstract and not directly obvious for everybody - it also looks like a busy hub with a lot of activity around or like a source of energy - like a sun. i like it because it has more than one interpretation. so I admit it is hard for me to come up with anything else to replace it. But I know I am only one person with one opinion and I don't want to impose it on the rest.
Maybe removing some of the rings (and the abstract iron connection) can help. Not sure.. or adopt a completely different approach and go with the beet (like the avatar but without the smile) if preferred by most:
I'd go for a different approach...
I noticed the examples and suggestions I put in my previous text were not uploaded so I re-edited them back into the post.
Yeah, remove the inner ring, make the outter ring thicker and reduce the number of dots but make them thicker.
As I said before, I like the current logo. And the "simplified" version too.
improved double rings with thicker lines and more balanced:
Less lines and dots but thicker as @Shadowstreik's suggestion
@antilopa images path are wrong, can you upload them again?
I very much like each of these. On mine, I chose the angle of "less is more", simplified but gets the message across and would show up less cluttered on smaller-sized views.
I like the
Less lines and dots but thicker
oneIt appears one may have been put into production. However, it forced an "Update Available" notification. When kicked off, it forced an overall theme change and the instance icon is difficult to see. I was able to determine the instance icon is the default Akkoma or Pleroma image.
Yes it is because i had to move to default frontend yesterday after update due to another issue that needs resolving prior. Default frontend was not setup at all so its pure default.
So I need to do disrootify it. Specially that akkoma now has (still alpha) option to choose frontend which is neat. So yeah hopefully over the weekend I will manage to fix all that.
Makes complete sense. Thank you.
I think that whichever icon is decided upon that it ends up matching the motif with other icons where there's the beetroot burgundy background and the icon is white.
so, do we all agree on the 'Less lines and dots but thicker" that @antilopa created and uploaded above?
(Is agreed) :)
@antilopa can you add it to the asset repo then? I'll then add it on host_vars so that we can deploy this on fe.disroot.org
added in Disroot/Artwork_assets#4
I added those in host_vars, so we just need to deploy now ;)
