What do you thing about hosting https://code.castopod.org/adaures/castopod ?
It seems like a good service for podcast?
I like the idea.
Yes this could be fun. We would then need to run a disroot podcast and I hope you do relize this 😆.
I wonder if were to host it (I would love to), if it would be better to host it under a catchy name for domain. Subdomain although nice, (eg. tune.disroot.org or radio.disroot.org), maybe harder to find or sound attractive for content creators.
A name thought just hit me, "The Root." So, perhaps, perhaps 'root.disroot.org' on subdomain. Just a random thought.
Have a look here,

Thank me later ;)
A few more I've come up with:
I like discast.
It looks like this may/could possibly be developed, built and put into production. So, I've created a Video Card in Deck on Nextcloud reserved for a video introducing it.
I was just doing some work on the Video Card on NC and a question popped into my mind. Would this be only for a Disroot podcast or a hosting solution for others, as well?
nothing decided yet @Shadowstreik
@Disroot/Owners what do you think of this? Should we provide this?
Deploy Castopod for podcastto Should we deploy Castopod for podcast ?@meaz I love the idea actually. But that means we need to launch disroot podcast hahahaha.I would go for all PeerTube + Castpod + BOnfire. I think this would be a nice addition to the fedi group.
I also like the idea. And regarding @Shadowstreik question, I don't know. I usually tend to think that this kind of services should be for disrooters first. Especially if it involves moderation work and space resources.
I agree on a Disrooters-First approach. Good catch, Fede.
agree
and agreee
as for name - discast looks nice but sounds too much like disgust too me.. I would rather go with dispod or one of theother suggestions like beetcast
I vote Beetcast. :)
Ok so it seems like we agree on castopod deployment, with the beetcast name. We also want to have if for Disrooters only.
We also need to decide how much of default storage do we want to offer? I've no idea how many GB could be a a proper default storage...
Thank you @zeeshan . :)
Since a podcast doesn't require a lot of space like videos do, I believe having something akin to an existing service is prudent. I haven't looked into it, but the 3 gigs Open Audio has appears to be a good starting point to consider.
Storage
I wonder if we actually need to add storage restrictions. IF we apply the same rules as on peertube (creative commons, public, no reposts, own productions), we will not have storage issue as there won't be much podcasts there and possibility to litter and abuse would be rather small. We need to make sure that things like podcast of someone just streaming music (specially copyrighted) is prohibited. That said, usage will be small (if any, as I am curious how many would actually want to run a podcast).
disroot accounts only
This is also why I wonder if disrooter first is something we should apply. I doubt there will be milion of accounts creating podcasts, and so those creators that do decide to use our platform, should be forced to use disroot account. Personally I think this should not be needed, but encouraged (as a creator take advantage of entire disroot offering for your creation).
Beetcast
Love the name. @antilopa we would need juicy logo for starters and once deployed on test server, work out nice theme/graphics to attract the creators. :D
One thing to mention here (I just thought about it in previous sentence), is that unlike other services, where people make accounts and use it, here we might want to find/attract creators to use our platform. This is why jokingly, but actually quite serious, we should consider starting the platform by running something like disrootcast, where we as a core team run a podcast talking about interesting things, invite floss creators (who are developing software we use on disroot) for talks and so on.
We decided to apply storage restrictions on peertube, so I don't see why not doing it on castopod also.
I'm sorry but I don't understand the problem of having a Disroot account to use a Disroot service. I mean, I understand that one could want to just create pod, but then that person could then create a disroot account and use it only for pod (like a lot of user create one for email and don't use it for cloud, xmpp, etc.)
TBH, I don't know how we can handle this. We already are struggling sending a newsletter each month...
I don't any storage capacity issues for Castopod, either, but usage should be monitored from time to time. Compared to video file sizes and such, audio is nothing in comparison.
I don't see any problem with needing a Disroot account. It can help ensuring abuse is kept low, if even non-existent. Needing an overall service account can keep folks with Not-So-Ideal intentions away, almost serve like a deterrent. For others, having the benefits of an overall service account are a bonus and some of those services may be used, in addition.
I already have an idea to create a podcast version of my Disroot News videos I have just started up (bi-weekly to possibly monthly at some point). I'll be filming them in such a way where I can, then, convert the video into a simple Audio-Only version and uploading that as a Cast. I plan to cover the monthly blogs and the maintenance periods.
Ok so here is what we decided in monthly meeting: we already have a lot to take care of, and this service is not high priority. So, we don't close this ticket, we just keep the idea as a side project that we will be working on when we have free time. So no ETA.
