Backgroud
Given that there are more and more reports, many of them for situations that could be solved with the moderation tools provided by the platform, it seems necessary to have certain clear guidelines regarding some conducts or behaviors that we want to avoid and how we act when faced with them.
Therefore, the following basic guidelines are proposed. Feel free to comment, give your opinion, modify and/or add whatever you consider necessary.
Basic Coexistence Guidelines
Disroot is a community, that is, a group of people who share things in common. And the most common thing we share, besides being users of the platform, is that we are all different and therefore have particular ways of thinking, feeling and bonding.
Our terms of use govern in a general way all services. But in those that are designed for people to interact, it is also necessary to guarantee the exercise of our differences in conditions of respect and security so that we can all express ourselves without fear of mistreatment of any kind.
To try to achieve this, FEDisroot establishes a series of basic conditions of coexistence. These conditions are not intended to be perfect and monolithic, so they may change for the better. When necessary, the community will be duly informed.
In case you consider that any of these conditions contradicts or does not fit your principles or limits in any way your way of being, you can choose not to use it or look for another instance where you feel less conditioned.
1. Respect if we want to be respected.
Insults, comments and disqualifying speech to another person or group because of their gender, social, racial, physical, mental or ideological condition are considered violent behavior and are not tolerated. This category also includes threats and harassment.
2. Do not contribute to abuse
The distribution of material whose production process has generated violence, sexual aggression and exploitation of adults or minors is not admissible in our community.
3. Do not promote intolerance and violence.
Fascism, Nazism and any other political or religious expression that promotes violence against groups of people have no place in this instance.
In case that any member of the community does not respect or intentionally violates any of the above guidelines, their account may be deleted without notice and immediately.
Taking care of our space
The open and diverse nature of the Fediverse enables many ways to interact with many very different people. And it also increases the chances of coming across bots and people who are difficult to interact with. That's why every member of the community has moderation tools to take care of themselves and others. If you don't know them, you can learn about them here.
There are two levels of moderation.
Each user is responsible for blocking and/or muting accounts that they do not wish to interact with. If the account is from an external instance, you can also send a report to the admins of that instance.
Reporting another user of the same instance is a resource to be used when someone is violating any of our terms of use or the basic guidelines mentioned above or when the tools are not effective enough in a particular case.
The admins can intervene at any time if a case warrants it and take the appropriate measures.
Respect and care for our community is a collective responsibility of all its members.
@fede nice. Perhaps we could throw it over on cryptpad so we could add comments/suggestions/extra text proposals.
Done.
Great. Thanks. @fede we should also check if there are points in TOS not included in the text. Also maybe if we create general code of conduct for all services (specially for those where users interact with eachother), we could replace the current TOS points talking about the same things and just add the code of conduct. Or the other way around, have a code of conduct talk about general guidelines (neticete) and point to TOS for more detailed list of things forbiden etc.
All three guidelines are based on our TOS although these are kind of more focus on interactions and behaviors rather than general use of the services.
Yes, I also think we should have something similar for D•Scribe and maybe the chat too.
I read the text on cryptpad, it looks great! I definitively agree we should have a generic one that we should apply to all chat/fediverse services.
Where should we add this general code of conduct ?
Maybe we could add it to the terms of use or design a specific page within the site that we can link to from the XMPP, Akkoma and Lemmy services pages.
I would perhaps not multiple pages, so in the Terms of Use sounds good to me.
So should I add this in the Term of Services? If we so, in what section?
I think so. But I can't figure out how to add it in a coherent way. Maybe before the last point? We could also enable the TOC to make it easier to find the terms.
I agree that it is not that easy to implement this :)
