Damn this one took forever. New year's resolution of posting on regular basis seem to be taking a bad turn from the get go. No idea what happen as this blog post was going through number of iterations and changes due to having the post being postponed over and over again. Ok. This time for real. Hope your resolutions are holding up better than ours and you have settled in the new year.

First of, we are proud and excited that this year, we are publishing our yearly report now and not in July. Pat in the back for the team to deliver on time. For quite a while our postings were irregular and we did not mention much about new features on each service, and when we did post, we rather focused on general Disroot-as-a-platform news. We want to change that and inform you about new features, changes and improvements happening on all services on a monthly basis. We check upstream changelogs so you don't have to. Additionally as some suggested we have changed the numbering of the newsletters and from now on, as you might have noticed, it will be Year.Month (24.03). Mainly to keep consistent with [Disroot changelog](https://disroot.org/changelog) but also make it easier to find things when needed. So on to the latest highlights from last three months:

# New Service D•Scribe (powered by Lemmy)

||||
|
||||
Let's start with new service. For few weeks we have been testing out a replacement to forum service we have phased out last year. We are happy with it so far and so decided to invite you to give it a try. Lemmy is a similar service to reddit, but with a pinch of fediverse magic. Service allows to subscribe and create public communities where you can post links to interesting things, or start discussion threads. That's right. Lemmy is a federated service. That means when using our instance, you are not limited to the content and users on the instance, but you can interact with communities across many servers out there. We are still testing the grounds, but looks like Spanish disrooters already went all-in and are enjoying it. So waste no more time, create an account (it requires separate account), and share and interact. @fede has already [cooked up tutorials](https://howto.disroot.org/en/tutorials/social/dscribe). # Themes

|
||||
Last weeks @antilopa has worked on more unified color palette for themes on Roundcube and SearXNG. The result is pretty good already. We are especially happy with dark themes as it's hard to create those specially with the "Disroot colors". Enjoy :D

# LibreTranslate
|
||||
|
||||
Oh! Another service. While preparing to close the last year, @meaz came out of the blue with ready to deploy setup for LibreTranslate. Since this has been requested by number of disrooters, and has very low (if any) littering / abuse factor, we decided to just go ahead with it. And so we are happy to announce we have our own Disroot Translate service at [https://translate.disroot.org](https://translate.disroot.org).

# Growing our own celery!

|
||||
This is mind blowing news. Looking at the state of finances and amount of income in the past year, we decided we can secure funds for several purposes (check the yearly report for details). Among those, a financial compensation for @muppeth. Although not paid for his full time, it's an awesome step. Thank you so much! We have decided we can allocate monthly wages to @muppeth of 1000 euro for this year. As we do not want to get into financial issues, this is based on money we have gathered prior. We wish to be able to truly become financially independent in the future and compensate entire team full time. Your financial support of the project is crucial. # Lacre
|
||||
|
||||
Ok. We hyped it for a long time now. It's time to hit the Disroot servers finally. For past week we are running a so called silent testing on Disroot server. Since all email does need to pass through Lacre, which will then decide whether to encrypt or not, we can test Lacre's performance and fish out some of the bugs we could not find when on test server (simply due to the scale factor). And so for past weeks @pfm has been ironing out things as result of edge cases we have find. Once most of the issues are solved, we will import first keys from those brave enough to try the encryption out. Then we will announce a proper beta tests. So keep your eyes and ears open in April cause Lacre is definitely coming your way this spring \o/

The coming year is packed with work already and we are planning to do a lot. Check the yearly report to read about all the hype. We are confident we will do all that stuff this year but everything in small baby steps. You will read about all the progress in the upcoming newsletters.

Carajo, este demoró una eternidad. El objetivo de Año Nuevo de publicar de manera regular parece estar dando un mal giro de entrada. Ni idea qué sucedió, porque este post fue pasando por una cantidad de versiones y cambios como consecuencia de venir postergándose una y otra vez. Está bien. Esta vez en serio. Esperamos que sus objetivos se mantengan mejor que los nuestros y los hayan resuelto en el nuevo año.

Primero que nada, estamos orgullosos y entusiasmados de que este año estemos publicando nuestro reporte anual ahora y no en julio. Palmadas en la espalda para el equipo por entregar a tiempo. Como siempre, en el reporte pueden leer algo de lo más destacado del año, el resumen financiero y también la cumbre de los planes para 2024. Durante largo tiempo nuestras publicaciones fueron irregulares y no mencionábamos mucho acerca de nuevas características en cada servicio, y cuando lo hacíamos, nos enfocábamos más en noticias generales sobre Disroot como plataforma. Queremos cambiar eso e informarles sobre nuevas funcionalidades, cambios y mejoras que se van dando en todos los servicios de manera mensual. Comprobamos los registros de cambios así no tienen que hacerlo ustedes. Además, como algunas personas sugirieron, cambiamos la numeración de los boletines y a partir de ahora, como habrán notado, será Año.Mes (24.03). Principalmente para mantener la coherencia con el [registro de cambios de Disroot](https://disroot.org/changelog) pero también para que sea más fácil encontrar las cosas cuando es necesario. # Nuevo servicio D•Scribe (desarrollado por Lemmy)

|
||||
Empecemos con un nuevo servicio. Durante algunas semanas hemos estado probando un remplazo para el servicio de foro que dimos de baja el año pasado. Estamos felices con él hasta ahora y por eso decidimos invitarles a probarlo. **Lemmy** es un servicio parecido a **Reddit**, pero con una pizca de magia del Fediverso. Permite suscribirse y crear comunidades públicas donde pueden compartir enlaces a cosas interesantes o comenzar hilos de discusión. Así es. Lemmy es un servicio federado, esto quiere decir que cuando usan nuestra instancia, no están limitados al contenido y usuaries de la instancia, sino que pueden interactuar con comunidades a través de los muchos servidores que hay por ahí. Todavía estamos probando el terreno, pero parece que las y los disrooters de habla hispana ya se pusieron con todo y lo están disfrutando. # Temas

||||
Las últimas semanas @antilopa ha trabajado en una paleta más unificada de colores para los temas de **Roundcube** y **SearXNG**. El resultado ya es bastante bueno. Estamos particularmente contentos con los temas oscuros porque esos son difíciles de crear, sobre todo con "los colores de Disroot". Disfruten :D

# LibreTranslate

||||
¡Ah! Otro servicio. Mientras se preparaba para cerrar el año que pasó, @meaz salió de la nada con una configuración lista para implementar **LibreTranslate**. Como esto ha sido solicitado por una cantidad de disrooters, y tiene un factor muy bajo de desperdicio / abuso (si es que tiene alguno), dicidimos darle para adelante. Así que estamos felices de anunciar que tenemos nuestro propio servicio Disroot de traducción en [https://translate.disroot.org](https://translate.disroot.org).

|
||||
# ¡Cultivando nuestro propio apio!
|
||||
|
||||
Esta es una noticia alucinante. Viendo el estado de las finanzas y la cantidad de ingresos del año pasado, decidimos que podemos asegurar fondos para varios propósitos (revisen el reporte anual para más detalles). Entre ellos, una compensación económica para @muppeth. Aunque no es un pago por su tiempo completo, es un paso impresionante. ¡Muchas gracias! Decidimos que podemos asignar remuneraciones mensuales a @muppeth de 1000 euros por este año. Como no queremos meternos en problemas financieros, esto se sostiene con dinero que hemos juntado previamente. Deseamos a futuro poder volvernos económicamente independientes de verdad y compensar al equipo entero a tiempo completo. Su apoyo económico al proyecto es crucial. # Lacre

||||
|
||||
Muy bien. Le dimos manija por bastante tiempo ya. Es momento de que por fin llegue a los servidores de Disroot. Durante las últimas semanas estuvimos corriendo lo que se llama "una prueba silenciosa" en el servidor de Disroot. Como todos los correos necesitan pasar a través de **Lacre**, que entonces decidirá cuáles cifrar y cuáles no, podemos probar su performance y pescar algunos de los errores (o bugs) que no podríamos encontrar en un servidor de prueba (básicamente por un tema de escala). Y por eso durante las últimas semanas @pfm ha estado planchando cosas como resultado de los casos puntuales que hemos encontrado. Una vez que la mayoría de los problemas estén resueltos, importaremos las primeras claves de aquellas personas suficientemente valientes para probar el cifrado. Luego anunciaremos las pruebas beta formales. ¡Así que mantengan los ojos y oídos abiertos en abril porque Lacre está definitivamente llegando esta primavera (boreal) \o/ !

Este año que comienza ya está completo de trabajo y estamos planeando hacer un montón de cosas. Vean el reporte anual para leer sobre todo el revuelo. Estamos confiados que haremos todas esas cosas este año pero todo a pasitos de bebé. Podrán enterarse sobre el progreso en los boletines próximos.

Accidenti, questa volta ci è voluta una vita. Il proposito del nuovo anno di postare regolarmente sembra aver preso una brutta piega fin dall'inizio. Non abbiamo idea di cosa sia successo, visto che questo post è stato sottoposto a diverse iterazioni e modifiche a causa del fatto che è stato rimandato più e più volte.

Speriamo che i vostri propositi reggano meglio dei nostri e che abbiate iniziato alla grande l'anno nuovo.

Innanzitutto, siamo orgogliosi ed entusiasti del fatto che quest'anno pubblicheremo il nostro rapporto annuale ora e non a luglio. Una pacca sulla spalla al nostro team che è riuscito a terminarlo nei tempi previsti. Vogliamo cambiare questa situazione e informarvi sulle nuove funzionalità, sui cambiamenti e sui miglioramenti che avvengono su tutti i servizi su base mensile. Inoltre, come suggerito da alcuni, abbiamo cambiato la numerazione delle newsletter e d'ora in poi, come avrete notato, sarà Anno.Mese (24.03). Iniziamo con un nuovo servizio. Da qualche settimana stiamo testando un servizio sostitutivo del forum che abbiamo eliminato gradualmente l'anno scorso. Finora ne siamo soddisfatti e abbiamo deciso di invitarvi a provarlo. Lemmy è un servizio simile a reddit, ma con un pizzico di magia del fediverso. Il servizio consente di iscriversi e di creare comunità pubbliche in cui è possibile pubblicare link a cose interessanti o avviare discussioni. Lemmy è un servizio federato. Ciò significa che quando si utilizza la nostra istanza, non si è limitati ai contenuti e agli utenti dell'istanza, ma si può interagire con le comunità di molti server. Stiamo ancora testando il terreno, ma sembra che i disrooters spagnoli si siano già dati da fare e si stiano divertendo. Quindi non perdete altro tempo, create un account (richiede un account separato), condividete e interagite. @fede ha già [preparato dei tutorial](https://howto.disroot.org/en/tutorials/social/dscribe). # LibreTranslate

|
||||
Oh! Un altro servizio. Mentre ci preparavamo a chiudere l'ultimo anno, @meaz ci ha proposto una configurazione pronta per LibreTranslate. Dal momento che questo servizio è stato richiesto da un buon numero di disrooters. Siamo quindi felici di annunciare che abbiamo il nostro servizio Disroot Translate all'indirizzo [https://translate.disroot.org](https://translate.disroot.org).

# Coltiviamo il nostro orticello!
|
||||
|
||||
Questa è una notizia sconvolgente. Guardando lo stato delle finanze e l'ammontare delle entrate nell'ultimo anno, abbiamo deciso che possiamo garantire fondi per diversi scopi (controllate il rapporto annuale per i dettagli). Tra questi, un compenso finanziario per @muppeth. Anche se non è pagato per il suo tempo pieno, è un passo importante. Grazie mille! Abbiamo deciso di assegnare a @muppeth un salario mensile di 1000 euro per quest'anno. Poiché non vogliamo avere problemi finanziari, questo si basa sui soldi che abbiamo raccolto in precedenza. Vogliamo essere in grado di diventare veramente indipendenti dal punto di vista finanziario in futuro e di retribuire l'intero team a tempo pieno. # Lacre

||||
|
||||
Ok. L'abbiamo annunciato da molto tempo. Oggi è finalmente arrivato il momento di colpire i server Disroot. Da una settimana stiamo eseguendo un cosiddetto test silenzioso sui server Disroot. Dal momento che tutte le e-mail devono passare attraverso Lacre, che deciderà se crittografarle o meno, possiamo testare le prestazioni di Lacre e scoprire alcuni dei bug che non siamo riusciti a trovare sul server di prova (semplicemente a causa del fattore di scala). Per questo motivo, nelle ultime settimane @pfm ha risolto alcuni casi limite che abbiamo riscontrato. Una volta risolti la maggior parte dei problemi, importeremo le prime chiavi di coloro che sono abbastanza coraggiosi da provare la crittografia. Poi annunceremo un vero e proprio beta test. Tenete quindi gli occhi e le orecchie aperte in aprile, perché Lacre arriverà sicuramente in primavera.
