Hallo there. Missed us? Well, silent but not lazy. Last time, we wrote that the world was going crazier each month. Sadly, seems we couldn't be more right about it. While waiting for imminent UFO invasion (what else is left to surprise us right?), here is some highlights on what we've been busy with.

|
||||
# New perk: Extra storage on Cryptpad
|
||||
We have been hosting Cryptpad for several years now, and we're really happy about it. It's a great set of collaboration services for those who value privacy as all data is end to end encrypted.
|
||||
|
||||
Recently, some Disrooters contacted us to see if they could have extra storage on Cryptpad, like we do for mail and cloud. So first we extended the **default free storage from 250MB to 500MB for everyone \o/**.
|
||||
|
||||
We've also decided to allow user to allocate the extra storage they pay for as they wish between cloud, mail and now also Cryptpad. For example, if a Disrooter donates for 10GB storage, this user could decide to have 6GB for cloud, 2GB for mail and 2GB for Cryptpad. These extra gigabytes will be added on top of the default storage space given on account sign-up (so in that previous example the user would have 2,5GB of extra storage on Cryptpad).

# Forgejo: Support incoming email
|
||||
Forgejo is the software powering our [git instance](https://git.disroot.org). Last month we have added new feature called "incoming email". This feature allows for several actions that can be executed via email such us replying to issues or mentions. Specially useful if you want to stay active on your project while on the go.
|
||||

# New services
|
||||
For Halloween :), we've deployed two new services.
|
||||
|
||||
First, we have replaced ConverseJS with **Movim** as a xmpp chat service. It's far more user friendly which is something many of you were asking for. Apart from great interface, it provides also a form of federated social network features such as communities and blogging. All this federated with other Movim/XMPP nodes and in the future part of fediverse which is powering our [akkoma instance](https://fe.disroot.org) instance and thousands of others in the network. We would like to thank a lot of all people involved in [ConverseJS]( https://conversejs.org/) project for supporting and developing this webchat solution. We would like to send our love and greeting to [jcbrand](https://mastodon.xyz/@jcbrand) for all his work and support. Thanks for all the fish!

Second, service is a translation service you can find under [translate.disroot.org](https://translate.disroot.org). It is powered by [LibreTranslate](https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate) software. Our instance is still fresh and possibly unstable so if you notice anything worth feedback, please feel free to do so. It will help us get things stable and awesome!

# Fight against spam
|
||||
As usual, the never ending war on spam continues. We're trying our best to combat this plague. This time we have tackle mostly the outgoing SPAM from Disroot itself. We are dealing with quite an amount of abusers creating Disroot accounts to send out spam, phishing and other abuse. This harms our reputation as a domain which results in emails sent from Disroot in general being viewed by others as spam. We did add some measures to combat this activity without harming users privacy and we do see some progress on the field. It does require consistency and adding yet another task to daily routine but we are sure it will yield results. Hopefully Disroot will become too much of a hassle for abusive scum so that they will loose interest and move away to look for easier prey.

|
||||
Additionally, we have enabled a feature on [webmail](https://webmail.disroot.org) allowing users to mark emails as spam. Those marked emails are then forwarded automatically to us, and we can use them to further teach spam filters on our servers. If you do get some spam, please mark it as such. If you get a lot of it, move them to your Junk folder and drop us a line at support@disroot.org. We will then take care of the Junk mails for you and feed it to our ever hungry spam filtering system. If you use native client forwarding your spam to spam.report@disroot.org and your ham (false positive) ham.report@disroot.org will do the trick also.

# New EU regulations to destroy user privacy
|
||||
Yet again, our privacy and safety in the internet is challenged. It seems that governments cannot stand the fact internet is our last free bastion to exchange information and ideas and are doing what they can to turn that medium into controlled one, just like radio, newspapers or television.
|
||||
|
||||
First they are coming for your correspondence. ChatControl legislation as a result of war against child pornography and grooming is planning to destroy any end-to-end encryption messaging as the authorities require service provider to snoop on all messages to filter out the suspicious ones. It destroys fundamental rights for your privacy of correspondence while totally missing the goal, as child abusers will continue to find the ways to distribute their content. It is much failed approach as solving homelessness with a legislation or banning kitchen knifes as they could be used to harm or kill others.
|
||||
|
||||
Secondly, EU behind closed doors is trying to push legislation that will force all web-browsers (and not only) to implement certificate authorities and cryptographic keys selected by EU governments. This essentially would allow government (or anyone else for that matter) who's in possession of such certificates to intercept encrypted data you exchange with the website and view it in plain in real time. For example, emails you send, posts, you upload, images you view, things you download or upload, people you communicate with. Essentially everything you do on the internet could be viewed in real time by the state. This is no joke, nor it's a far fetched conspiracy theory. This is our reality!
|

# What is coming up?
|
||||
Next two months we want to focus on proper end of the year cleaning. We will try to cleanup, answer and finalize everything that is either urgent or easy to close on our issue board, support ticket queue and all started but unfinished. We will try to answer all old pending tickets too. We hope to welcome new year with nice clean slate, as little backlog as possible. Keep your fingers crossed.

We tried to resurrect the idea of XMPP custom domain but we have hit a concrete wall in the process and have not managed to get it up and running. The good thing though is that we are working on it finally, and we will try to find a solution to the issue we currently have. Hopefully it's a solvable matter. # Nuevo beneficio: almacenamiento extra en Cryptpad
|
||||
Venimos alojando Cryptpad desde hace varios años ya y estamos muy contentos con eso. Es un gran conjunto de servicios de colaboración para quienes valoran la privacidad ya que todos los datos están cifrados de extremo-a-extremo.
|
||||
|
||||
Recientemente, algunes Disrooters nos contactaron para ver si podían tener almacenamiento extra en Cryptpad, como lo hacemos para el correo y la nube. Así que primero ampliamos **el almacenamiento gratuito por defecto de 250MB a 500MB para todes \o/**.

||||
|
||||

# Peleando contra el SPAM
|
||||
Como ya es habitual, la batalla interminable contra el spam continúa. Estamos tratando de combatir esta plaga. Esta vez hemos abordado principalmente el SPAM saliente desde Disroot misma. Estamos lidiando con una cantidad importante de abusadores creando cuentas de Disroot para enviar spam, hacer phishing y otros abusos. Esto perjudica nuestra reputación como dominio y termina generando que correos electrónicos enviados desde Disroot en general, sean vistos por otros como spam. Añadimos algunas medidas para combatir esta actividad sin dañar la privacidad de les usuaries y observamos algunos avances en el campo. Requiere constancia y suma una tarea más a la rutina diaria, pero estamos seguros que dará resultados. Esperamos que Disroot se vuelva una molestia para esta escoria abusiva, que pierdan el interés y se vayan a buscar una presa más fácil.

Adicionalemnte, habilitamos una función en el [webmail](https://webmail.disroot.org) que permite a las personas usuarias marcar correos como spam. Estos son automáticamente reenviados a nosotros y podemos utilizarlos para seguir enseñando a los filtros antispam de nuestros servidores. Si reciben algún spam, por favor, márquenlo como tal. Si reciben un montón, muévanlos a la carpeta de Correo Basura y escríbannos a support@disroot.org. # La nueva normativa de la UE destruirá la privacidad de les usuaries
|
||||
Una vez más, nuestra privacidad y seguridad en internet están amenazadas. Parece que los gobiernos no pueden soportar el hecho de que sea nuestro último bastión libre para intercambiar información e ideas y están haciendo lo posible por convertir ese medio en uno controlado, como la radio, la prensa o la televisión.
|
||||
|
||||
Primero van a por sus correspondencias. La legislación de ChatControl, que es el resultado de la guerra contra la pornografía infantil y el acoso de menores, planea destruir cualquier tipo de mensajería cifrada de extremo-a-extremo, ya que las autoridades exigen a los proveedores de servicios que husmeen en todos los mensajes para filtrar los sospechosos. Destruye derechos fundamentales a la privacidad de la correspondencia y no logra el objetivo, porque los abusadores de menores seguirán encontrando la forma de distribuir sus contenidos. Es una estrategia errada, como querer resolver el problema de las personas sin hogar con una legislación o prohibir los cuchillos de cocina porque podrían usarse para dañar o matar a otras personas.
|
||||
|
||||
En segundo lugar, la UE está tratando de impulsar a puerta cerrada una legislación que obligará a todos los navegadores web (y no solo a ellos) a implementar autoridades de certificación y claves criptográficas seleccionadas por los gobiernos de la UE. Esto permitiría fundamentalmente al gobierno (o a cualquiera) que esté en posesión de dichos certificados interceptar los datos cifrados que ustedes intercambien con el sitio web y verlos en tiempo real. Por ejemplo, los correos electrónicos que envíen, las publicaciones, las cosas que suban o descarguen, las imágenes que vean, las personas con las que se comuniquen. Esencialmente, todo lo que hacen en internet podría ser visto en tiempo real por el Estado. Esto no es broma ni una teoría conspirativa descabellada. ¡Es nuestra realidad!

# ¿Qué viene ahora?
|
||||
Los próximos dos meses queremos enfocarnos en una buena limpieza de fin de año. Intentaremos limpiar, responder y finalizar todo lo que sea urgente o fácil de cerrar en nuestro tablero de incidencias, tickets de soporte y todo lo empezado pero sin terminar. También intentaremos responder a todos los tickets pendientes más antiguos. Esperamos dar la bienvenida al nuevo año con una pizarra bien limpia y el menor retraso posible. Crucen los dedos.

Hemos intentado resucitar la idea del dominio XMPP personalizado pero nos topamos con un muro en el proceso y no hemos conseguido ponerlo en marcha. Lo bueno, sin embargo, es que por fin estamos trabajando en ello e intentaremos encontrar una solución al problema que tenemos actualmente. Esperemos que sea un asunto solucionable. # Nuovi benefici: spazio di archiviazione extra sul Cryptpad
|
||||
Ospitiamo Cryptpad da diversi anni e ne siamo davvero felici. È un ottimo insieme di servizi di collaborazione per coloro che tengono alla privacy, poiché tutti i dati sono crittografati end-to-end.
|
||||
|
||||
Recentemente, alcuni Disrooters ci hanno contattato per sapere se potevano avere uno spazio di archiviazione extra su Cryptpad, come facciamo per la posta e il cloud. Quindi, per prima cosa abbiamo esteso l'archiviazione gratuita **di default da 250MB a 500MB per tutti \o/**.

# Lotta allo spam
|
||||
Come al solito, la guerra senza fine allo spam continua. Stiamo facendo del nostro meglio per combattere questa piaga. Questa volta abbiamo affrontato soprattutto lo SPAM in uscita da Disroot stesso. Abbiamo a che fare con un gran numero di utenti che creano account Disroot per inviare spam, phishing e altri abusi. Questo danneggia la nostra reputazione come dominio e fa sì che le e-mail inviate da Disroot in generale vengano considerate da altri come spam. Abbiamo aggiunto alcune misure per combattere questa attività senza danneggiare la privacy degli utenti e vediamo alcuni progressi in questo campo. Richiede costanza e l'aggiunta di un altro compito alla routine quotidiana, ma siamo sicuri che darà risultati. Ci auguriamo che Disroot diventi una seccatura troppo grande per gli abusivi, in modo che perdano interesse e si allontanino per cercare prede più facili.
|
||||
|
||||
Inoltre, abbiamo attivato una funzione su [webmail](https://webmail.disroot.org) che consente agli utenti di contrassegnare le e-mail come spam. # Nuove norme UE per distruggere la privacy degli utenti
|
||||
Ancora una volta la nostra privacy e la nostra sicurezza su Internet vengono messe in discussione. Sembra che i governi non riescano a sopportare il fatto che Internet sia il nostro ultimo baluardo libero per lo scambio di informazioni e idee e stiano facendo il possibile per trasformare questo mezzo di comunicazione in un mezzo controllato, proprio come la radio, i giornali o la televisione.
|
||||
|
||||
Per prima cosa stanno arrivando alla vostra corrispondenza. La legislazione sul ChatControl, come risultato della guerra contro la pornografia infantile e l'adescamento, sta progettando di distruggere qualsiasi messaggistica con crittografia end-to-end, poiché le autorità richiedono ai fornitori di servizi di spiare tutti i messaggi per filtrare quelli sospetti. Distrugge i diritti fondamentali per la privacy della corrispondenza e manca totalmente l'obiettivo, poiché gli abusatori di minori continueranno a trovare il modo di distribuire i loro contenuti. In secondo luogo, l'UE, a porte chiuse, sta cercando di spingere una legislazione che costringerà tutti i browser web (e non solo) a implementare autorità di certificazione e chiavi crittografiche selezionate dai governi dell'UE. In sostanza, ciò consentirebbe al governo (o a chiunque altro) in possesso di tali certificati di intercettare i dati crittografati scambiati con il sito web e di visualizzarli in chiaro in tempo reale. Ad esempio, le e-mail che inviate, i post che caricate, le immagini che visualizzate, le cose che scaricate o caricate, le persone con cui comunicate. # Cosa sta per succedere?
|

Nei prossimi due mesi vogliamo concentrarci sulla pulizia di fine anno. Cercheremo di ripulire, rispondere e finalizzare tutto ciò che è urgente nella coda dei ticket. Cercheremo quindi di rispondere a tutti i vecchi ticket in sospeso. Speriamo di dare il benvenuto al nuovo anno con una bella tabula rasa e con il minor arretrato possibile. Incrociamo le dita.

Abbiamo cercato di resuscitare l'idea del dominio personalizzato XMPP, ma ci siamo scontrati con un muro nel processo e non siamo riusciti a renderlo operativo. La cosa positiva è che finalmente ci stiamo lavorando e cercheremo di trovare una soluzione al problema attuale. Speriamo che sia una questione risolvibile. Entro la fine dell'anno speriamo di poter finalmente testare Lacre (il nostro approccio alla crittografia end-to-end delle caselle di posta). @pfm ha fatto parecchi progressi e pensiamo di essere pronti, quindi restate sintonizzati per ulteriori dettagli in arrivo.
