dnstable implements an encoding format for passive DNS data. It
consists of a C library, libdnstable, and several command line
utilities for creating, querying, and merging dnstable data files.
It stores key-value records in Sorted String Table (SSTable) files
and provides high-level interfaces for querying or iterating over
the stored records. dnstable encodes individual records using a
format tailored for efficiently storing passive DNS data and can
quickly perform both "forward" and "inverse" searches.

DNS SRV record command line wrapper
-----------------------------------
wrapsrv adds support for connecting to a network service based on DNS SRV
record lookups to commands that do not support the DNS SRV record. wrapsrv
implements the weighted priority client connection algorithm in RFC 2782.
The specified command line will be invoked one or more times with %h and %p
sequences in the command line substituted for the hostname and port elements
of the selected SRV record.

gdnsd is an Authoritative-only DNS server. This port tracks the 2.x release.
The initial g stands for Geographic, as gdnsd offers a plugin system for
geographic (or other sorts of) balancing, redirection, and
service-state-conscious failover. If you don't care about that feature,
it's still quite good at being a very fast, lean, and resilient
authoritative-only server for static DNS data.
gdnsd is written in C using libev and pthreads with a focus on high
performance, low latency service. It does not offer any form of caching or
recursive service, and does not support DNSSEC.

As dns/powerdns was just updated to version 3.4, there was a decision to
be had to disable the -devel version or just remove the port altogether.
Due to the frequency of releases and the manner on how the upcoming
version is tested, it made sense to retire the port (at version 3.3).

The Fedora 10 infrastructure ports have been in use since June 2009 and, while
having served a great deed, have become unsupported upstream and hence affected
by unfixed security vulnerabilities. In addition to that, many recent Linux
binaries need newer libc / stdlibc++ versions.
This commit adds the linux-c6- userland as drop-in replacement for the -f10
infrastructure, as well as upgrading the linux_base-c6 port to CentOS 6.5.
If you want to switch to linux-c6 ports, please define at /etc/make.conf:
OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=c6
OVERRIDE_LINUX_NONBASE_PORTS=c6
Additionally, please add the following line to /etc/sysctl.conf:
compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.18
Upgrading procedures are shown in /usr/ports/UPDATING.
This work has been inspired by Artyom Mirgorodskiy's post to emulation@ in
November 2013, using and extending mav@'s work. It has been tested extensively
and most reported issues were already fixed. Please report any additional bug
or "features" to the emulation mailing list.

Provide a means for storing a history of DNS/Name changes for the IP Addresses
extracted from web log files. The major target being that multiple analyses of
older log files do not require re-lookups of IP Address to FQDNs, and
additionally maintain the accuracy of the lookup as it was then and not as it
is now.

BIND 9.10 includes a number of changes from earlier releases, including:
- DNS Response-rate limiting (DNS RRL)
- A new "prefetch" option can improve recursive resolver performance
- ACLs can now be specified based on geographic location using the
MaxMind GeoIP databases.
- A new compile-time option, NATIVE_PKCS11 allows the BIND 9
cryptography functions to use the PKCS#11 API natively.

getdns is a modern asynchronous DNS API.
It implements DNS entry points from a design developed and vetted by application
developers, in an API specification edited by Paul Hoffman. With the development
of this API, we intend to offer application developers a modernized and flexible
way to access DNS security (DNSSEC) and other powerful new DNS features;
a particular hope is to inspire application developers towards innovative
security solutions in their applications.

IRONSIDES is an authoritative DNS server that is provably invulnerable to
many of the problems that plague other servers. It achieves this property
through the use of formal methods in its design, in particular the language
Ada and the SPARK formal methods tool set. Code validated in this way is
provably exception-free, contains no data flow errors, and terminates only
in the ways that its programmers explicitly say that it can. These are very
desirable properties from a computer security perspective.
IRONSIDES is not a complete implementation of DNS. In particular, it does
not support zone transfers or recursive queries. It does, however, support
a sufficient number of DNS records to be useful as an authoritative DNS
server for an enterprise.

This version replaces the nsdc control program with nsd-control.
This requires some manual setup with nsd-control-setup and editing
of the config files. nsd-control is incompatible with nsdc so when
that is used in scripts, these should be adapted.
NSD 3 is still supported as dns/nsd3.

This port is based on dns/dnsmasq 2.62_1,1 and has been updated to 2.63rc2.
Description (by Simon Kelley, the upstream maintainer):
Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP server.
It is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. It
can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS. The
DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows machines with
DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names configured either
in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq supports static and
dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP/TFTP/PXE for network booting of diskless
machines.

the Public Suffix List from http://publicsuffix.org
A public suffix is one under which Internet users can directly register names.

user interface or sorting URLs by web site

The Net::DNS::Zone::Parser should be considered a preprocessor that "normalizes"
a zonefile.
It will read a zonefile in a format conforming to the relevant RFCs with the
addition of BIND's GENERATE directive from disk and will write fully specified
resource records (RRs) to a filehandle. Whereby:
- All comments are stripped
- There is one RR per line
- Each RR is fully expanded i.e. all domain names are fully qualified
(canonicalised) and the CLASS and TTLs are specified.
- Some RRs may be 'stripped' from the source or otherwise processed. For details
see the 'read' method.
Note that this module does not have a notion of what constitutes a valid zone,
it only parses. For example, the parser will happilly parse RRs with ownernames
that are below in another zone because a NS RR elsewhere in the zone.

Mozilla::PublicSuffix provides a single function that returns the public suffix
of a domain name by referencing a parsed copy of Mozilla's Public Suffix List.
From the official website at http://publicsuffix.org:
A "public suffix" is one under which Internet users can directly register names.
Some examples of public suffixes are .com, .co.uk and pvt.k12.wy.us. The Public
Suffix List is a list of all known public suffixes.
A copy of the official list is bundled with the distribution. As the official
list continues to be updated, the bundled copy will inevitably fall out of date.
Therefore, if the bundled copy of found to be over thirty days old, this
distribution's installer provides the option to check for a new version of the
list and download/use it if one is found.

This version of nsd is end of life since 2007 and unsupported.
See the details at http://nlnetlabs.nl/projects/nsd/nsd-v2.html.
The current version also contains a vulnerability. It is much
more sensible to move to a supported version (as available in
the port dns/nsd).

BIND version 9 is a major rewrite of nearly all aspects of the underlying BIND
architecture. Some of the important features of BIND 9 are:
DNS Security: DNSSEC (signed zones), TSIG (signed DNS requests)
IP version 6: Answers DNS queries on IPv6 sockets, IPv6 resource records (AAAA)
Experimental IPv6 Resolver Library
DNS Protocol Enhancements: IXFR, DDNS, Notify, EDNS0
Improved standards conformance
Views: One server process can provide multiple "views" of the DNS namespace,
e.g. an "inside" view to certain clients, and an "outside" view to others.
Multiprocessor Support
BIND 9.8 includes a number of changes from BIND 9.7 and earlier releases,
including:
Preliminary DNS64 support (AAAA synthesis only initially)

asynchronously. It is an asynchronous wrapper around getaddrinfo(3),
getnameinfo(3), res_query(3) and res_search(3) from libc and libresolv.
In contrast to GNU's asynchronous name resolving API getaddrinfo_a(),
libasyncns does not make use of UNIX signals for reporting completion of name
queries. Instead, the API exports a standard UNIX file descriptor which may be
integerated cleanly into custom main loops.
In contrast to asynchronous DNS resolving libraries like libdenise, skadns,
adns, libasyncns is just an asynchronous wrapper around the libc's synchronous
getaddrinfo() API, which has the advantage of allowing name resolution using
techniques like Multicast DNS, LDAP or NIS using standard libc NSS (Name
Service Switch) modules. libasyncns is compatible with IPv6 if the underlying
libc is.
libasyncns is very tiny, consisting of just one header and one source file. It
has no dependencies besides libc.

BIND 9.6.0. Originally from older versions of BIND, they have been
continually maintained and improved but not installed by default with
BIND 9. This standard resolver library contains the same historical
functions and headers included with many Unix operating systems.
In fact, most implementations are based on the same original code.
ISC's libbind provides the standard resolver library, along with header
files and documentation, for communicating with domain name servers,
retrieving network host entries from /etc/hosts or via DNS, converting
CIDR network addresses, performing Hesiod information lookups, retrieving
network entries from /etc/networks, implementing TSIG transaction/request
security of DNS messages, performing name-to-address and address-to-name
translations, and utilizing /etc/resolv.conf for resolver configuration.

Unbound is designed as a set of modular components, so that also
DNSSEC (secure DNS) validation and stub-resolvers (that do not run as
a server, but are linked into an application) are easily possible.
Goals:
* A validating recursive DNS resolver.
* Code diversity in the DNS resolver monoculture.
* Drop-in replacement for BIND apart from config.
* DNSSEC support.
* Fully RFC compliant.
* High performance
o even with validation.
* Used as
o stub resolver.
o full caching name server.
o resolver library.
* Elegant design of validator, resolver, cache modules.
o provide the ability to pick and choose modules.
* Robust.
* In C, open source: The BSD license.
* Smallest as possible component that does the job.
* Stub-zones can be configured (local data or AS112 zones).
Non-goals:
* An authoritative name server.
* Too many Features.

daemon.
multi_dnsbl is a DNS emulator daemon that increases the efficacy of DNSBL
look-ups in a mail system. multi_dnsbl may be used as a stand-alone DNSBL or as
a plug-in for a standard BIND 9 installation. multi_dnsbl shares a common
configuration file format with the Mail::SpamCannibal sc_BLcheck.pl script so
that DNSBL's can be maintained in a common configuration file for an entire
mail installation.
Because DNSBL usefulness is dependent on the nature and source of spam sent to
a specific site and because sometimes DNSBL's may provide intermittant service,
multi_dnsbl interrogates them sorted in the order of greatest successful hits.
DNSBL's that do not respond within the configured timeout period are not
interrogated at all after 6 consecutive failures, and thereafter will be
retried not more often than once every hour until they come back online. This
eliminates the need to place DNSBL's in a particular order in your MTA's config

cap is a network capture utility designed specifically for DNS
traffic. It produces binary data in pcap(3) format, either on
standard output (by default) or in successive dump files (if the d
command line option is given.) This utility is similar to tcpdump(1),
but has finer grained packet recognition tailored to DNS transactions
and protocol options. dnscap is expected to be used for gathering
continuous research or audit traces.
SYNOPSIS
dnscap [-avf6] [-i if ...] [-l vlan ...] [-p port] [-m [quire]] [-h [ir]]
[-q host ...] [-r host ...] [-d base [-k cmd]] [-t lim] [-c lim]

It uses POE::Component::Client::DNS to handle resolving when configured as
'forward_only' and Net::DNS::Resolver::Recurse wrapped by
POE::Component::Generic to perform recursion.
One may add handlers to massage and manipulate responses to particular queries
which is vaguely modelled after Net::DNS::Nameserver.

descendant class that allows a virtual DNS to be emulated
instead of querying the real DNS. A set of static DNS
records may be supplied, or arbitrary code may be specified
as a means for retrieving DNS records, or even generating
them on the fly.

for small gateway machines, like a Soekris box. Its main feature
is that it does not require any Perl or Python interpreter.
It supports HTTPS, can send a mail report, and can run as daemon.
It is also very easy to deploy.
