A koan (pronounced /ko.an/) is a story, dialog, question, or statement in

|
the history and lore of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, generally containing aspects
|
|
that are inaccessible to rational understanding, yet that may be
|
|
accessible to intuition.
|
|
|
