Some ioctl's were defined wrong on 2.6.2 and 2.6.6, using the wrong
type of R/W arguments. They were fixed, but the old ioctl names are
still there, maintained to avoid breaking binary compatibility:
There's no sense on preserving those forever, as it is very doubtful
that someone would try to use a such old binary with a modern kernel.
Removing them will allow us to remove some magic done at the V4L ioctl
handler.
Note that any application compiled with a videodev2.h from 2.6.7 or later

Multi-planar API is as a backwards-compatible extension of the V4L2 API,
which allows video buffers to consist of one or more planes. Planes are
separate memory buffers; each has its own mapping, backed by usually
separate physical memory buffers.
Many different uses for the multi-planar API are possible, examples
include:
- embedded devices requiring video components to be placed in physically
separate buffers, e.g. for Samsung S3C/S5P SoC series' video codec,
Y and interleaved Cb/Cr components reside in buffers in different
memory banks;
- applications may receive (or choose to store) video data of one video
buffer in separate memory buffers; such data would have to be temporarily
copied together into one buffer before passing it to a V4L2 device;
- applications or drivers may want to pass metadata related to a buffer and
it may not be possible to place it in the same buffer, together with video
data.

Many video drivers implement a fixed set of frame formats and thus face a task
of finding the best match for a user-requested format. Implementing this in a
generic function has also an advantage, that different drivers with similar
supported format sets will select the same format for the user, which improves
consistency across drivers.

The old usbvideo ibmcam driver needs to be replaced with a v4l2 driver
preferably using the gspca webcam framework rather then the old usbvideo
framework.
This new gspca sub driver sets a first step in that direction. The ibmcam
driver supports 4 different model webcams. This new driver (for now) only
supports Model 3 cameras, as my test cam is a Model 3 cam, or so I thought.
Upon reading:
http://www.linux-usb.org/ibmcam/
I learned that the IBM Netcamera Pro I have even though having the same
usb id and the same bcd version is different from the Model 3 cameras
supported by the ibmcam driver. So this new gscpa subdriver supports Model 3
cameras (untested), and the IBM Netcamera Pro. Currently use with the
IBM Netcamera Pro requires a module parameter. I hope to be able to

This flag is intended to indicate streaming errors, which might have
resulted in corrupted video data in the buffer, but the buffer can still
be reused and streaming may continue.
Setting this flag and returning 0 is different from returning EIO. The
latter should now indicate more serious (unrecoverable) errors.
This patch also solves a problem with the ioctl handling code in
vl42-ioctl.c, which does not copy buffer identification data back to the
userspace when EIO is returned, so there is no way for applications

- VIDIOC_ENUM_DV_PRESETS
- VIDIOC_S_DV_PRESET
- VIDIOC_G_DV_PRESET
- VIDIOC_QUERY_DV_PRESET
- VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS
- VIDIOC_G_DV_TIMINGS

Blu-Ray HD DVD source -> TVP7002 -> DM365 (VPFE) ->DDR
A draft version of the TVP7002 driver (currently being reviewed in the mailing

A loopback video capture application was used for testing these APIs. This calls
following IOCTLS :-
- verify the new v4l2_input capabilities flag added
- Enumerate available presets using VIDIOC_ENUM_DV_PRESETS
- Set one of the supported preset using VIDIOC_S_DV_PRESET
- Get current preset using VIDIOC_G_DV_PRESET
- Detect current preset using VIDIOC_QUERY_DV_PRESET
- Using stub functions in tvp7002, verify VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS
and VIDIOC_G_DV_TIMINGS ioctls are received at the sub device.

#define #include <sys/time.h>
This is because for some reason it defines __user for itself -- despite
the fact that we remove all instances of __user when exporting headers.
_All_ pointers in userspace are user pointers. Fix it by removing the
unnecessary '#define __user' from the file.
The new headers ivtv.h and ivtvfb.h would have the same problem... if
whoever put them there had actually remembered to add them to the Kbuild
file while he was at it. Fix those too, and export them as was
presumably intended.
Note that includes of <linux/compiler.h> are also stripped by the header
export process, so those don't need to be conditional.

The VID_TYPE defines are V4L1 specific, so copy them back to videodev.h.
In videodev2.h ensure that they are not used in the kernel (you need
to include videodev.h instead) and mark them are deprecated.

SPCA505 and SPCA508 added in the pixel formats.
Decode functions and associated resources removed in spca505, 506 and 508.
The decode routines are now found in the V4L library.

The low (half) res modes of the spca561 are not spca561 compressed, but are
raw bayer, this patches fixes this and adds a PIX_FMT define for the GBRG
bayer format used by the spca561 in low res mode.

But there was no warning in Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.txt
and I'm receiving reports that it's breaking userspace apps (the
gstreamer-v4l2 plugin breaks in Fedora rawhide). You can't just pull
things from the published userspace API like that.
Please can we revert the addition of _DEPRECATED to these ioctl
definitions. Perhaps we can add a runtime warning if they actually get
used? Or a compile-time warning if we can manage that?

Michael Schimek requested the addition of inverted alpha framebuffer
caps/flags to support such hardware.
'Normal' alpha uses this formula to mix the framebuffer and video:
output = fb pixel * fb alpha + video pixel * (1 - fb alpha)
and the 'inverted' alpha uses this formula:
output = fb pixel * (1 - fb alpha) + video pixel * fb alpha

Reverted the change to struct v4l2_pix_format. I completely missed that
this struct was used by existing ioctls so that changing it broke the ABI.

but for now this change is reverted to preserve compatibility.

VIDIOC_G_CHIP_IDENT improves debugging of card problems: it can be
used to detect which chips are on the board and based on that information
selected register dumps can be made, making it easy to debug complicated
media chips containing tens or hundreds of registers.
This ioctl replaces the internal VIDIOC_INT_G_CHIP_IDENT ioctl.
