Kill local strdup completely and also remove the malloc and calloc

definitions. ANSI C is portable enough for us.

Aparently a directory tree can only be 8 directories deep on VMS.
...
It seems if you goof up enough it's no problem do ending with >80
on Unix. Make xdu deal with this properly.
