This letter serves as my cover letter in applying for the position of "Jr. Data Scientist (Remote USA)", as found on www.glassdoor.com.
I am currently going through a career change. After receiving my Masters Degree in Mathematics, I worked mostly in the educational field as a University Professor and College Instructor. Teaching is not much of an intellectual challenge once you get the lesson plans worked out. I have been working toward a career shift for the last few years, and am mostly interested in anything related to cybersecurity, data science, and/or blockchain technologies. The COVID-19 situation radically changed the working environment, and all of the reasons that I enjoyed being a full-time College Mathematics Instructor completely vanished. I took that as a sign that I needed to get serious about the career change. I decided to sign up for the Data Science Professional Certification program through HarvardX, paying completely out of pocket. I was about 2/3 of the way thorough the program when a drastic change in campus policy inspired me to resign from teaching and focus on my coursework full time. I completed the certification in November of 2021, and have completely fallen in love with the field. This is the intellectual challenge I have been looking for! Now I just need to find the right employer to work with. Being new to the field, I have been searching for Junior Data Scientist positions and paid Internships. When I came across the listing for "Jr. Data Scientist (Remote USA)", I applied immediately because it is precisely what I have been hoping to find after finishing my certification.
I look forward to arranging an interview if possible. I live in Northern New Mexico, so a remote interview of some kind would be preferred. Thank you for taking the time to look over my credentials and consider my candidacy.
