# Splinterstice
Splinterstice is a decentralized web-based IM (instant messaging platform) inspired by Kiwiirc and Revolt, enhanced with personal features for our standard web client, like a 2.5D GUI. It's primarily for niche online groups native to the "miscellaneous hidden services" on Tor and I2P, The core focus is on 'miscellaneous hidden services' - a term coined by the project's coordinator. it was coined to describe hidden services on Tor and I2P that are non-indexed, non-illicit, and non-commercial. Meaning that they're not you typical "dark-web" or "deep-web" hidden services; ranging from NSFL memes, to eccentric hobbyist sites, to obscure socio-political commentary sites, to obscure imageboards, to sites that are clearly for shitposting (excluding ARGs or weird art projects"). Splinterstice ensures public accessibility only through Tor and I2P for non-registered users, a move designed to prevent dilution by mainstream users, curbing echo chambers and ensuring quality exchanges. The online ecosystem today, especially on platforms like TikTok, Twitter (now called "X" cause of Elon Musk), Reddit, 4Chan, and other mainstream platforms, have shaped collective mentalities for mostly the worst, often without substance or factual grounding, due to having significantly influenced people's perceptions and beliefs. Many users, especially the younger generation, are ensnared in echo chambers, absorbing generic, broad-brush perspectives on life, rather than gaining real-world experiences. Hence, where Splinterstice comes in, to offer an alternative — a space where genuine, nuanced discussions can flourish, free from the prevalent black-and-white thinking and unchecked misinformation, as it seeks to break this mold, offering a haven for genuine, grounded, and comprehensive discussions, as an escape from both the online echo chambers and centralization of the clearnet. In turn, maintaining higher than average quality online environments, also extending to having quality posts, over the shilling of superficial "hot-takes".
