+Мы используем доску проектов, куда помещаем все, что нужно сделать. Мы выбрали «гибкую методологию» в качестве отправной точки и работаем спринтами, которые представляют собой короткие периоды времени. В нашем случае спринт занимает четыре недели. В начале спринта мы вместе решаем, какие задачи имеют приоритет и должны быть добавлены в текущую очередь. Затем, в течение четырех недель, мы делаем все возможное, чтобы сделать как можно больше. Как только время истечет, мы закрываем спринт, перемещаем незавершенные задачи обратно в стопку невыполненных работ и публикуем сообщение по всем каналам (Форум, Диаспора*, Мастодонт, сообщение в блоге) о последних изменениях и новых разработках для платформы **Disroot**.

+Those of you who follow our [state](https://state.disroot.org) site probably know we have been migrating all our servers to a new rack cabinet on Sunday. The operation went very smooth and things were back online within an hour.

+Sunday around midnight (CET) one of our servers went down shortly. Because of the disk encryption, all services dependent on this machine have been down until one of the admins woke up to see the situation. We have quickly restored the server and everything went back online, but only for short time. After we've put things up online, we sent email to the datacenter asking if it was possible that someone mistakenly pulled the plug on our server (things happen). While we were happy with services back online and updating our social feed and our state site, we noticed that the server has rebooted again. Apparently one of the on-site datacenter engineers went over to the rack, saw that one cable was not plugged all the way in, and he attempted to push the plug. While doing it he noticed the server going down. In order to not cause any more unexpected downtimes, muppeth rushed to the datacenter to see what the issue is. Ready with duct-tape, tie-rips and a hammer (always have a hammer with you, you never know) he proceeded to inspect the situation. Indeed one of the cables was slightly out. Pushing the cable in position seems to be solving the issue. The cable sits now very nicely in the socket and does not seem to be wanting to go anywhere.

+Quienes siguen nuestra página de [estado](https://state.disroot.org) probablemente saben que el domingo migramos todos nuestros servidores a un nuevo armario rack. La operación se hizo sin problemas y las cosas volvieron a estar en línea en una hora.
+
+El domingo, alrededor de la medianoche (CET), uno de nuestros servidores se cayó brevemente. Como los discos están cifrados, todos los servicios que están en esa máquina estuvieron fuera de servicio hasta que uno de los administradores se despertó para ver la situación. Rápidamente restauramos el servidor y todo volvió a estar en línea, pero solo por un rato.<br>

Preparado con cinta adhesiva, ganchitos y un martillo (siempre hay que llevar un martillo, nunca se sabe), procedió a inspeccionar la situación. +And what a year it was! There is no point in emphasizing how this year sucked for all of us and how everything seems to be upside down around the world. Let's just focus on positive stuff and enjoy the last days of the year.

+Now since we have been a bit slacky this year updating you guys on what has changed, let's see some of the little changes in the last weeks.
+
+## Nextcloud 20
+We have recently updated our **Nextcloud** instance to the latest version. This one brings tons of cool new features. The most noticable would be the Dashboard. As you probably noticed, there is a new dashboard app showing you a feed of changes in your cloud. Whether it's calendar events, new files, deck cards or chats, you can view all of this in one glance. Additionally there are plugins allowing you to add external services such as mastodon, github, gitlab, and more. As the list of plugins will grow we will add more options of course.

+Additional change, especially for those using **Nextcloud** as a collaborative tool, is the status message. Now, you can easily display to others whether you are online, busy or anything in between. Known from other chat platforms, status allows others to see what you are busy with and if you are online to be bothered or not.
+
+For those who use **Nextcloud Talk** we have enabled bridging to other chat platforms. It's still experimental feature but it's good to test it in the battle field. Bridges allows you to connect multiple chat platforms in one, where a bot relays everything said in the chat room to all of the networks bridged, allowing split communities to participate together. And so, one **Nextcloud Talk** room can be connected to IRC, Matrix, Mattermost, XMPP and various other rooms. Try it out and let us know of any issues so we could relay that to the **Nextcloud** staff.

+Apart from all the good stuff and improvements, you might have also noticed that the performance of the cloud has improved greatly. Especially after we had issue with it for few weeks. We are happy things are back to normal and we are enjoying the cloud even more as Disroot Core Team, about which you can read below.
+
+## Using Nextcloud Deck for the Disroot Core Team planning
+From the very start, we've been using the services on Disroot as our main go-to solutions. Apart from being the admins we are also Disrooters ourselves, "dog-fooding" our platform as much as possible. We think that this aproach helps understand the issues and requirements better and we enjoy using our own creation. For last years we've used Taiga for planning our work and managing issues but recently we have decided to switch to Deck. One reason for it was that we have decided to drop SCRUM methodology as it was draining our energy, especially since Disroot is not our main occupation (believe it or not) and we still need to maintain dayjobs, families and other projects. The constant race from one sprint to another for the last 5 years, became too exhausting, and we could not keep up with the tempo we've created ourself. We concluded we do not need backlog, sprints and all that anymore and it was time to make better use of another tool we offer (you know dog fooding your own platform is best), so we decided to switch for a while from **Taiga** to **Nextcloud Deck**. To make it transparent and enable community to participate, we have created and shared both the Main project board (read only for non Core Members) and Issue board (where anyone can submit issues, feature requests, proposals, etc.) to the Disroot Community Circle. Any disrooter can join the "Disroot Community Circle" from circle app on **Nextcloud** to participate or check what we are currently busy with.
+
+Additionally we have created a chatroom on **Nextcloud Talk**, which is bridged with XMPP, IRC and Matrix rooms. This means no matter which platform you use for communication you can easily connect to Disroot Community Hangout. \o/
+
+So, join in, get active and have fun in our community circle!

+## Darkbeet ConverseJS theme
+The long promised and postponed theme for **ConverseJS** (our XMPP webchat of choice) has finally landed. There is still tons of things to improve, but *@muppeth* is very happy we finally managed to push something. It's a good start and we hope to push the theme once it's polished upstream. If guys at converseJS like it, it will be included into upstream source code.

+## Howto's update
+This year we also started the necessary updating of the Howtos. *@Fede* is fully committed to this, it is a task that requires constant dedication and in the process we are finding errors and possibilities for improvement. So far, most of the **Nextcloud** basics are covered and the User section is up to date, but there is still a lot left to do.

+The main goal of the Howto project is to provide and make accessible as much information, in as many languages, as possible about the services and software we use. As you can imagine, this requires a constant amount of work and time.
+
+So, if you want to collaborate in the development of the Howtos, improve and translate the existing ones or send us comments, suggestions or even write about your experiences using Disroot services and share them with the community, you just have to communicate with us through the [XMPP room](xmpp:howto@chat.disroot.org?join) or by [email](mailto:howto@disroot.org). Any help is very welcome. Remember that you can also see the progress of it on the **Deck board** accessible through the Cloud through the **Howto circle**.

+¡Y qué año fue este! No tiene sentido resaltar la cagada que fue para todxs y cómo todo parece estar al revés alrededor del mundo. Centrémonos en las cosas positivas y tratemos de disfrutar los últimos días del año.

+¡Queremos desearles a todos una gran celebración y un gran 2021! Nos gustaría agradecer especialmente a todxs los que nos han apoyado este año de todas las maneras. ¡¡Les enviamos un gran abrazo a todxs y cada unx de lxs Disrooters!! ¡Que tengan un gran año!

+Ahora bien, ya que hemos estado un poco flojos este 2020 poniéndolxs al tanto de lo que ha ido cambiando, veamos algunas de las pequeñas mejoras de las últimas semanas.

+## Nextcloud 20
+Hemos actualizado hace poco nuestra instancia de **Nextcloud** a su última versión que trae un montón de características nuevas buenísimas, siendo el **Tablero** la más notable. Como probablemente notaron, hay una nueva aplicación de tablero que muestra una lista de cambios en la nube. Ya sea que se trate de eventos de calendario, nuevos archivos, tarjetas de Deck o chats, pueden ver todo esto en un vistazo general. Además, hay plugins que permiten añadir servicios externos como Mastodon, Github, Gitlab y más. A medida que la lista de plugins crezca, añadiremos más opciones, por supuesto.

+Un cambio adicional, especialmente para quienes utilizan **Nextcloud** como herramienta de colaboración, es el mensaje de estado. Ahora pueden mostrar fácilmente a lxs demás si están en línea, qué están haciendo y cualquier otra cosa. Viejo conocido de otras plataformas de chat, el estado permite a lxs demás ver con qué están ocupadxs y si están en línea para que lxs molesten o no.

+Para aquellas personas que usan **Nextcloud Talk** hemos habilitado el puente a otras plataformas de chat. Todavía es una característica experimental pero es bueno probarla en el campo de batalla. Los puentes permiten conectar varias plataformas de chat en una, donde un robot transmite todo lo que sucede en una sala a todas las redes conectadas, permitiendo a las comunidades divididas participar juntas. Y así, una sala de chat de **Nextcloud** puede conectarse a una IRC, Matrix, Mattermost, XMPP y varias otras. Hagan la prueba y háganos saber sobre cualquier problema para que podamos transmitirlo al staff de **Nextcloud**.

+## Utilizando Nextcloud Deck para la planificación del Equipo Central de Disroot
+Desde el principio mismo, hemos estado usando los servicios de **Disroot** como nuestras principales herramientas. Además de ser los administradores, también somos Disrooters nosotros mismos, utilizando y testeando nuestra plataforma tanto como sea posible. Pensamos que este enfoque ayuda a entender mejor los problemas y requerimientos y disfrutamos usando nuestra propia creación. Durante los últimos años hemos usado el tablero **Taiga** para planificar nuestro trabajo y gestionar los problemas, pero recientemente hemos cambiado a **Deck**. Una de las razones fue que decidimos abandonar la [metodología SCRUM](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_(desarrollo_de_software)) ya que estaba consumiendo nuestra energía, especialmente porque **Disroot** no es nuestra principal ocupación (aunque no lo crean) y todavía necesitamos mantener nuestros trabajos diarios, familias y otros proyectos. La carrera constante de un sprint a otro durante los últimos 5 años, se volvió demasiado agotadora, y no pudimos mantener el ritmo que nosotros mismos creamos. Concluimos que ya no necesitamos la "pila de acumulados" (backlog), sprints y todo eso, y que era hora de hacer un mejor uso de otras herramientas que ofrecemos (ya saben, por aquello de que utilizar tu propia plataforma es siempre mejor), así que decidimos cambiar por un tiempo de **Taiga** a **Nextcloud Deck**. Para hacerlo transparente y permitir la participación de la comunidad, hemos creado y compartido tanto el Tablero principal del proyecto (donde quienes no son miembros del Equipo solo pueden leerlo) como el Tablero de Problemas (donde cualquiera puede reportar problemas, pedidos de mejoras, propuestas, etc.) con el **Círculo de la Comunidad Disroot**. Cualquier Disrooter puede unirse al **Círculo de la Comunidad** desde la aplicación **Círculos** en **Nextcloud** para participar o ver en qué estamos ocupados actualmente.

+Además hemos creado una sala de chat en **Nextcloud Talk**, que está vinculada a las salas XMPP, IRC y Matrix. Esto significa que no importa qué plataforma usen para comunicarse, pueden conectarse fácilmente al lugar de encuentro de la **Comunidad Disroot**. \o/

Hasta ahora, la mayor parte del uso básico de **Nextcloud** está cubierto y la sección de Usuarix está al día, pero todavía falta mucho por hacer.

+Last year, our End-of-the-Year fundraising was a success, and something really fun to do. We thought we should end this crazy year with something fun and creative as well. For a while we have been wanting to provide more gifts to all Disrooters donating money to keep the platform afloat. While making a traditional logo sticker is nice, we thought it would be cool if Disrooters themself design some cool stickers. So we thought of organizing a little contest.
