48e62d9a37 Presenting GNOME 2.30.1 for FreeBSD. The offical release notes for this
release can be found at http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.30/ .

This release brings initial PackageKit support, Upower (replaces power
management part of hal), cuse4bsd integration with HAL and cheese, and a
faster Evolution.

Sadly GNOME 2.30.x will be the last release with FreeBSD 6.X support. This
will also be the last of the 2.x releases. The next release will be the
highly-anticipated GNOME 3.0 which will bring with it a new UI experience.

Currently, there are a few bugs with GNOME 2.30 that may be of note for our
users. Be sure to consult the UPGRADING note or the 2.30 upgrade FAQ at
http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/faq230.html for specific upgrading
instructions, and the up-to-date list of known issues.

This release features commits by avl, ahze, bland, marcus, mezz, and myself.

The FreeBSD GNOME Team would like to thank Anders F Bjorklund for doing the
initual packagekit porting.

Speech Dispatcher is a device independent layer for speech synthesis,
developed with the goal of making the usage of speech synthesis easier
for application programmers. It takes care of most of the tasks
necessary to solve in speech enabled applications. What is a very high
level GUI library to graphics, Speech Dispatcher is to speech

f76d32b8e8 Presenting GNOME 2.28.1 for FreeBSD. The official release notes for this
release can be found at http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.28/ .
Officially, this is mostly a polishing release in preparation for GNOME 3.0
due in about a year.

On the FreeBSD front, though, a lot went into this release. Major thanks
goes to kwm and avl who did a lot of the porting work for this release.
In particular, kwm brought in Evolution MAPI support for better Microsoft
Exchange integration. Avl made sure that the new gobject introspection
repository ports were nicely compartmentalized so that large dependencies
aren't brought in wholesale.

But, every GNOME team member (ahze, avl, bland, kwm, mezz, and myself)
contributed to this release.

Other major improvements include an updated HAL with better volume
probing code, ufsid integration, and support for volume names containing
spaces (big thanks to J.R. Oldroyd); a new WebKit; updated AbiWord;
an updated Gimp; and a preview of the new GNOME Shell project (thanks to
Pawel Worach).

The FreeBSD GNOME Team would like to that the following additional
contributors to this release whose patches and testing really helped
make it a success:

Andrius Morkunas
Dominique Goncalves
Eric L. Chen
J.R. Oldroyd
Joseph S. Atkinson
Li
Pawel Worach
Romain Tartière
Thomas Vogt
Yasuda Keisuke
Rui Paulo
Martin Wilke
(and an extra shout out to miwi and pav for pointyhat runs)

We would like to send this release out to Alexander Loginov (avl) in
hopes that he feels better soon.

c11516af7b Here are new Linux Fedora 10 infrastructure ports.
Those ports are intended to be used with 8-CURRENT at least
with SVN r192206.

If you want to switch to linux-f10 ports, please define at /etc/make.conf:
  OVERRIDE_LINUX_BASE_PORT=f10
  OVERRIDE_LINUX_NONBASE_PORTS=f10

An upgrading procedure is shown at /usr/ports/UPDATING, entries 20090401
and 20070327.

For the first time all tested linux ports work as expected(!):
. acroread8;
. google-earth;
. skype;
. seamonkey.

Many thanks for kernel folks who really did the main work
(and I wrote only some lines of ports).

There is a good chance that those ports may become a default
for 8.0-RELEASE. Please, test and report back to emulation@ ML.

b9b4aec7e0 In preparation for adding new linux (Fedora 8) infrastructure ports all linux
base ports were unified. Now it's linux_base-fc4 turn: devel/linux-glib2
is incorporated.

Changes:

* emulation/linux_base-fc4:
  . devel/linux-glib2 is incorporated;
  . CONFLICTS is fixed;
  . PORTREVISION is bumped;

* removed *_DEPENDS upon devel/linux-glib2 and PORTREVISION bumped:
  . accessibility/linux-atk;
  . astro/google-earth;
  . audio/linux-openal;
  . graphics/linux-XnViewMP;
  . www/linux-mplayer-plugin;
  . x11-toolkits/linux-gtk2;
  . x11-toolkits/linux-pango;

* devel/linux-glib2:
  . CONFLICTS is fixed;
  . DEPRECATED;
  . EXPIRATION_DATE is set;

Note: this should fix a bug for non-default linux base ports when glib2
      files were installed both by a linux base and by linux-glib2 ports.

KDE Community ships sirst translation and service release of the 4.1
dree desktop, containing numerous bugfixes, Performance Improvements
and Translation Updates.

Pretty much all applications have received the developers' attention,
resulting in a long list of bugfixes and improvements. The most significant
changes are:

    * Significant performance, interaction and rendering correctness
      improvements in KHTML and Konqueror, KDE's web browser
    * User interaction, rendering and stability fixes in Plasma,
      the KDE4 desktop shell
    * PDF backend fixes in the document viewer Okular
    * Fixes in Gwenview, the image viewer's thumbnailing, more
      robust retrieval and display of images with broken metadata
    * Stability and interaction fixes in KMail

New Ports:
- graphics/kcoloredit
	* KColorEdit is a palette files editor. It can be used
	  for editing color palettes and for color choosing and
	  naming.

- graphics/kgraphviewer
	* KGraphViewer is a GraphViz DOT graph viewer for KDE. The
	  GraphViz programs are free-software layout engines for graphs.
	  KGraphViewer displays the graphs in a modern, user-friendly GUI
	  with all the power of a well integrated KDE application.

- graphics/kiconedit
	* KIconEdit is designed to help create icons for KDE using the standard
	  icon palette.

of KDE 3.5.10 for FreeBSD. The official KDE 3.5.10 release
notes can be found at:
http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-3.5.10.php

While not a very exciting release in terms of features,
3.5.10 brings a couple of nice bugfixes and translation
updates to those who choose to stay with KDE 3.5. The
fixes are thinly spread across KPDF with a number of crash
fixes, KGPG and probably most interesting various fixes
in kicker, KDE3's panel:

    * Improved visibility on transparent backgrounds
    * Themed arrow buttons in applets that were missing them
    * Layout and antialiasing fixes in various applets

741aa71483 Update CONFIGURE_ARGS for how we pass CONFIGURE_TARGET to configure script.
Specifically, newer autoconf (> 2.13) has different semantic of the
configure target. In short, one should use --build=CONFIGURE_TARGET
instead of CONFIGURE_TARGET directly. Otherwise, you will get a warning
and the old semantic may be removed in later autoconf releases.

To workaround this issue, many ports hack the CONFIGURE_TARGET variable
so that it contains the ``--build='' prefix.

To solve this issue, under the fact that some ports still have
configure script generated by the old autoconf, we use runtime detection
in the do-configure target so that the proper argument can be used.

Changes to Mk/*:
 - Add runtime detection magic in bsd.port.mk
 - Remove CONFIGURE_TARGET hack in various bsd.*.mk
 - USE_GNOME=gnometarget is now an no-op

Changes to individual ports, other than removing the CONFIGURE_TARGET hack:

= pkg-plist changed (due to the ugly CONFIGURE_TARGET prefix in * executables)
  - comms/gnuradio
  - science/abinit
  - science/elmer-fem
  - science/elmer-matc
  - science/elmer-meshgen2d
  - science/elmerfront
  - science/elmerpost

= use x86_64 as ARCH
  - devel/g-wrap

= other changes
  - print/magicfilter
    GNU_CONFIGURE -> HAS_CONFIGURE since it's not generated by autoconf

Total # of ports modified: 1,027
Total # of ports affected: ~7,000 (set GNU_CONFIGURE to yes)

43804a60ba YASR ("Yet Another Screen Reader") is an attempt at a lightweight,
portable screen reader. It works by opening a shell in a pty and
intercepting all user input/output, maintaining a window of what
should be on the screen by looking at the codes and text sent to the
screen. It thus uses no Linuxisms such as /dev/vcsa0 and does not
necessarily need to be setuid root (the only requirement being that
the user be able to access the tts device).

eb384d41a1 EFlite is a speech server for Emacspeak and other screen readers that allows
them to interface with Festival Lite, a free text-to-speech engine developed at
the CMU Speech Center as an off-shoot of Festival. EFlite is still in beta,
but I have been using it successfully with Yasr to get speech on my notebook
under Linux without having to lug my Speak-out around. It uses Festival Lite's
code to interface with the sound driver and, therefore, should work with some
versions of ALSA, but I have only tested it with the OSS sound drivers so far.

4acc6fb2a4 Presenting GNOME 2.20.1 and all related works for FreeBSD. The official
GNOME 2.20 release notes can be found at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.20/notes/en/ . Beyond that, this update
includes the new GIMP 2.4 (courtesy of ahze).

The GNOME 2.20 update also includes a huge change in the FreeBSD GNOME
hierarchy. We are now using the more standard DATADIR of ${PREFIX}/share
rather than ${PREFIX}/share/gnome. The result is that fewer patches and
hacks are needed to port GNOME components to FreeBSD. This will mean some
user changes may be required, so be sure to read /usr/ports/UPDATING for
more details.

This release and the things we accomplished in it would not have been
possible without mezz's crazy idea to collapse DATADIR, and his persistence
to make it happen successfully. Ahze and pav also deserve thanks for
their work on porting modules and testing the whole ball of wax on

7aeef3e519 Rename all binaries in qt4 which conflict with binaries installed by
qt33 to ($binary)-qt4 and adjust dependencies accordingly. This
avoids conflicts once X11BASE has been changed to /usr/local and
incidentally makes the naming scheme of the qt4 executables in ports
equal to that of the Fedora Core and Debian packages.

951c257ea3 Presenting GNOME 2.18 for FreeBSD. GNOME 2.18 is a departure from recent GNOME
releases in that it focuses more on stability and functionality than on
new features. Not that it doesn't have its share of new and exciting
items. See http://www.gnome.org/start/2.18/ for all the goodies in
this release.

GNOME 2.18 for FreeBSD would not have been possible without the hard work
of the FreeBSD GNOME Team and our intrepid band of testers including
J. W. Ballantine, Pawel Worach, Yasuda Keisuke, Pascal Hofstee, miwi,
Yoshihiro Ota, Vladimir Grebenschikov, Jukka A. Ukkonen,
Phillip Neumann, Franz Klammer, and Neal Delmonico.

e60947bbed Papi, the Python Accessibility Programming Interface, is a Python
wrapper around the GNOME ATK toolkit.
It allows a developer to make python objects and applications
easily accessibility aware without the need to install PyGTK and
the GNOME accessibility components. Instead it only depends on ATK
and - on the developers behalf - the ATK/AT-SPI bridge shipped with
AT-SPI.

f1bb12de8e Presenting GNOME 2.16.1 for FreeBSD. This release represents a massive
amount of work by the FreeBSD GNOME Team and our testers.

On top of the usual GNOME update, we have taken this opportunity to move
GNOME from X11BASE to LOCALBASE. This means roughly 600 ports NOT part of
the GNOME Desktop also need to be changed. The bulk of the move was carried
out by ahze, mezz, and pav, but it would not have been possible without
cooperation from the FreeBSD KDE team who worked with us to make sure
GNOME and KDE can still coexist happily. We would also like to send a
shout out to kris and pointyhat for putting up with multiple test runs
until we got something that was solid.

Back to GNOME 2.16. This release brings a huge amount of new functionality
to FreeBSD. The standard release notes can be read at
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.16/ . But on top of what you will read there,
jylefort and marcus have completed work on a port of HAL to FreeBSD. This
will allow FreeBSD to take advantage of closer hardware interaction such
as auto-mounting CD-ROMs, USB drives, and music players; auto-playing
audio CDs; and managing laptop power consumption.

But where would this all be without our loyal testers and contributors?
Therefore, the FreeBSD GNOME team would like to thank the following users:

336ae3953d - Add header in these *-reference ports.
- Fix a few of pkg-descr by chase the rename.
- Move all PORTREVISION and PORTEPOCH to top with ?=.
- Put USE_X_PREFIX back in, but under REFERENCE_PORT, and remove PREFIX? and
  USE_XLIB. This fix ports to use the correct mtree when you change the prefix,
  for example:

  	Incorrect: (Without USE_X_PREFIX)
	================================
	# cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/gtk20
	# make -V MTREE_FILE
	/etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist
	# make PREFIX=/tmp/foo -V MTREE_FILE
	/etc/mtree/BSD.local.dist <-- Here...
	================================

  	Correct: (With USE_X_PREFIX)
	================================
	# cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/gtk20
	# make -V MTREE_FILE
	/etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist
	# make PREFIX=/tmp/foo -V MTREE_FILE
	/etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist <-- Here...
	================================

- Change a several of *-reference ports to install in LOCALBASE instead
  X11BASE, but only two gtkmm*-reference couldn't be change at the moment.
  Bump the PORTREVISION for change prefix.
