The Vowpal Wabbit (VW) project is a fast out-of-core learning system
sponsored by Microsoft Research and (previously) Yahoo! Research.
There are two ways to have a fast learning algorithm: (a) start with a slow
algorithm and speed it up, or (b) build an intrinsically fast learning
algorithm. This project is about approach (b), and it's reached a state
where it may be useful to others as a platform for research and experimentation.
There are several optimization algorithms available with the baseline
being sparse gradient descent (GD) on a loss function (several are available).

Gnome 3.14.1 and Cinnamon 2.2.16 are supported on FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE and up.
This commit removes the old GNOME 2 desktop, bindings and some ports that
can't be compiled. A few ports where updated to more recent versions to
allow them to compile with this update.
Apart from updating ports to newer versions
GDM is more integrated with gnome-shell now, and handles several things for
the GNOME desktop such as screen locking. If you want to use GNOME 3 via
startx, you will have to add your own lock screen/screensaver. For example xscreensaver
can be used for sessions started without GDM.
Shell Extensions can be installed via https://extensions.gnome.org/ , we have
ported a few that can't be installed via this way.
The old gnome-utils and gnome-games ports where split up into single ports
and where converted to meta-ports.
gnome-terminal requires a UTF-8 locale to run, gdm handles this already, but
if you use startx you need to do this yourself.
Upgrade instructions:
Delete the old and conflicting packages:
# pkg delete clutter gnome-utils gnome-panel gnome-keyring vala-vapigen \
guile gcalctool gnome-media libgnomekbd
# pkg delete gnome-screensaver gnome-applets bug-buddy evolution-exchange \
evolution-webcal gnome-system-tools seahorse-plugins gnome-control-center
For package users the following lines will be enough:
# pkg upgrade
# pkg install gnome3
For ports users should do the following:
# portmaster -a
# portmaster x11/gnome3
We are currently aware of two issues. The first issue is a bug in the
file monitoring code in the glib20 port. This bug causes glib programs
to crash when files in a monitored directory are added or removed.
Upstream is aware of the problem, but since the problem is quite complex
there is no solution yet. This problem isn't restricted to BSD.
The second issue is that on certain video cards totem will display a
purple/pink overlay on the video. It not clear yet where the issues
comes from.
Major thanks goes to Gustau Perez for being a driving force behind getting
GNOME 3 up to speed again. Also thanks to Antoine Brodin for running the exp-runs.

The STK is a (not so) Small Toolbox for Kriging. Its primary focus in on
the interpolation/regression technique known as kriging, which is very
closely related to Splines and Radial Basis Functions, and can be
interpreted as a non-parametric Bayesian method using a Gaussian Process

non-sequential design of experiments. Even though it is, currently, mostly
geared towards the Design and Analysis of Computer Experiments (DACE), the
STK can be useful for other applications areas (such as Geostatistics,
Machine Learning, Non-parametric Regression, etc.).

This class covers most functionality of UNIDATA's UDUNITS Library, however,
with a more sophisticated handling of string expressions.
UDUNITS always decomposes units into the four base units and discards the
original string expressions. Therefore, 'hPa' always becomes '100
kg.m-1.sec-1', and 'day' always becomes '86400 sec'. On the other hand, this
library tries to keep the original expressions as much as possible by default,
while allowing partial to complete decompositions if needed.

The primary motivation for adding why3 is to support the upcoming SPARK
2014 port. However, SPARK 2014 requires a custom version. In time the
customizations should make it upstream, but currently the stock version
cannot be used to build SPARK. They are also licensed differently (LGPL2
for stock, GPLv3 for SPARK version).
Rather than force people that find why3 useful on their own to accept a
custom version, both are offered although they currently conflict.
Why3 has optional dependencies on coq, isabelle, and frama-c, and all
three have issus:
* coq rebuilds its libraries in $LOCALBASE, could be issue with coq
* isabella currently has a broken dependency (sjsml) and only for i386
when it's not. Updating to 2013-2 version failed, as did trying to
build it with polyml instead of sjsml
* frama-c is fine, but the plugin code in why3 is still experimental
and upstream recommends that it not be used.

Why3 is a platform for deductive program verification. It provides a rich
language for specification and programming, called WhyML, and relies on
external theorem provers, both automated and interactive, to discharge
verification conditions. Why3 comes with a standard library of logical
theories (integer and real arithmetic, Boolean operations, sets and maps,
etc.) and basic programming data structures (arrays, queues, hash tables,
etc.). A user can write WhyML programs directly and get correct-by-
construction OCaml programs through an automated extraction mechanism.
WhyML is also used as an intermediate language for the verification of C,
Java, or Ada programs.
Why3 is a complete reimplementation of the former Why platform. Among the
new features are: numerous extensions to the input language, a new
architecture for calling external provers, and a well-designed API,
allowing to use Why3 as a software library. An important emphasis is put
on modularity and genericity, giving the end user a possibility to easily
reuse Why3 formalizations or to add support for a new external prover if
wanted.
This is a new requirement for the latest veersion of alt-ergo.

base representation than normal. In base n arithmetic you have n
symbols which have a representation. I was going to call them
"glyphs", but being text strings they are not really. On Tye McQueen's
whimsical suggestion I settled on the name Math::Fleximal, the set of
text representations is called a "flex", and the representation of
individual digits are the "flecks". These names are somewhat
unofficial...
This allows you to do basic arithmetic using whatever digits you want,
and to convert from one to another.

OpenFst is a library for constructing, combining, optimizing, and
searching weighted finite-state transducers (FSTs). Weighted finite-state
transducers are automata where each transition has an input label, an
output label, and a weight. The more familiar finite-state acceptor
is represented as a transducer with each transition's input and output
label equal. Finite-state acceptors are used to represent sets of
strings (specifically, regular or rational sets); finite-state transducers
are used to represent binary relations between pairs of strings
(specifically, rational transductions). The weights can be used to represent
the cost of taking a particular transition.

Fastcluster provides Python functions for hierarchical clustering. It generates
hierarchical clusters from distance matrices or from vector data.
Part of this module is intended to replace the functions
linkage, single, complete, average, weighted, centroid, median, ward

faster algorithms. Moreover, the function 'linkage_vector' provides
memory-efficient clustering for vector data.

Changes to infrastructure files:
- bsd.kde.mk : obsolete, remove
- bsd.qt.mk : note that a CONFLICTS_BUILD line can probably go after a while
- CHANGES : document the removals from bsd.port.mk
- KNOBS : remove KDE and QT (KDE4 and QT4 should be used instead)
- MOVED : add the removed ports

good balance between speed and ease of use. The syntax is deliberately
similar to Matlab.
Integer, floating point and complex numbers are supported, as well as a
subset of trigonometric and statistics functions. Various matrix
decompositions are provided through optional integration with LAPACK, or
one of its high performance drop-in replacements (such as the
multi-threaded MKL or ACML libraries).
A delayed evaluation approach is employed (at compile-time) to combine
several operations into one and reduce (or eliminate) the need for
temporaries. This is accomplished through recursive templates and template
meta-programming.
Useful for conversion of research code into production environments, or if
C++ has been decided as the language of choice, due to speed and/or
integration capabilities.

Carve is a C++ library designed to perform boolean operations between two
arbitrary polygonal meshes. The standard union and intersection operations
are supported, as are symmetric and asymmetric difference. It is also
possible to implement custom operations using Carve, allowing results to be
formed from any combination of inputs.
Carve supports a variety of inputs, including both closed and open surfaces,
faces with arbitrary edge counts and datasets with multiple disjoint,
embedded or touching surfaces. Carve can also interpolate arbitrary values
across faces, meaning that CSG operations need not discard colour, texture
coordinates or other data.

Package KFAS provides funchtions for Kalman filtering, state,
disturbance and simulation smoothing, forecasting and simulation
of state space models. All functions can use exact diffuse
initialisation when distributions of some or all elements of initial
state vector are unknown. Filtering, state smoothing and simulation
functions use sequential processing algorithm, which is faster than
standard approach, and it also allows singularity of prediction
error variance matrix. KFAS also contains function for computing
